Four Ways To Save Your Winter Skin

Four Ways To Save Your Winter Skin

Winter, especially winter in Alberta, is incredibly hard on the skin. Between the dryness and the extreme cold, it’s difficult to make it through without feeling like your skin is angry with you. However, there are things you can do to help make sure you and your skin make it through the frigid months unscathed.

Add humidity

Alberta air is incredibly dry in the winter, and so is indoor heating. Your skin is often the first to show this lack of moisture: cracked lips and cuticle beds, tight skin on the face, and a whole lot of unattractive dullness. Adding a humidifier, especially in your bedroom, can do wonders to help keep your skin supple and strong.

As an added bonus, humidifiers are great for your overall well-being, especially your respiratory health.

Just make sure you clean your humidifier thoroughly and often so it doesn’t become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold that can make you sick.

Use warm or cool water

Washing your face with very hot water is incredibly dehydrating for your skin. Using cool or lukewarm water helps to keep you from drying out. If the water makes your skin at all red, it’s going to dry it out, so switch to a cooler temperature, even if it’s only for as long as you are washing your face.

Don’t dry your face

You’ve just hopped out of the shower or finished washing your face in the sink. What do you do next? Well, dry your face, of course!

Especially during the winter, try to avoid this step; at least on your face. Gently pat the excess moisture with your hands and then add your serum and moisturizer to lock all of the moisture in. It might seem strange at first, but you should notice a change in the tightness and dryness of your skin quite quickly with this new routine.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

Your skin acts as a barrier to keep your whole body healthy. In order to maintain this barrier, it needs enough moisture to stay healthy. Especially after your skin is wet (washing your face, showering), you need to lock in moisture with a – you guessed it – moisturizer. You want something that is rich but not heavy and that helps your skin maintain it’s elasticity, like our all-natural Age Definer™ moisturizer.
